Shielded / Unshielded, Round / Flat Multicore Cables
T&F manufactures a standard line of
PTFE
insulated multi-conductor signal & control cables designed for extreme
environments and rough usage. These are available as cable pairs or singles with
optional overall braid shield or metallic foil with drain. This construction is
widely used in aerospace and industrial applications requiring high reliability
and ultimate physical and electrical performance.
The conductors used are 7 or 19 stranded Silver
plated Copper / NPC insulated with 0.010" of PTFE tape, helically wrapped
and sintered to homogeneous mass. These are rated as 600V ACRMS working from -65
deg C to +260 deg C as per MIL W-16878 type E or JSS - 51034 with style
reference as WH2P-14. The conductors are color coded with a choice of 10
standard colors.
All cores (conductors insulated with PTFE) /
pairs are planetary cabled and contra-helically laid for optimum flexibility
with a sintered PTFE tape wrap over the bundle.. Shielding is done either by SPC
or SS or ABC conductors braided for 90% coverage. Jacketing over the shield is
as per the customer's requirement. Jackets available include PTFE tape, PVC and
Varnished Fiberglass.
RF Coaxial Cables Per MIL-C-17/JSS 51100
T & F's Co-Axial cables are
designed for use in data processing equipment and information
systems which require very precise signal characteristics. They may
also be used as circuit elements, delay lines or matching impedence
devices. All cables are carefully tested to ensure uniform quality
and reliable performance. Applications include use in original
equipment manufacture; system installations; research and
development; quality control and testing equipment.
The central conductor is insulated with PTFE to provide low loss
and high dielectric properties in the temperature range of -200 deg
C through +200 deg C. This inner dielectric is sometimes called the
"core" and serves not only to maintain a common axis but also to
separate the 2 conductors. The outer conductor or shield consists of
a single layer of woven metal braid. Depending on its use, this
braided outer conductor may shield the inner conductor against stray
inductance or radiation, or it may serve as a ground return for the
interconnected circuit. Wrapped around the outer conductor is an
insulated PTFE jacket.
PTFE Sleeves Tubings JSS-54802/MIL-1-22129
The PTFE Sleeves manufactured by
T & F are used for applications involving high temperatures, high
frequencies,or both. Sleeving covered by this specification
possesses excellent electrical properties, which remain practically
constant over a wide ranges of frequency, temperature and humidity,
and has a very low loss factor.
Although many wire-ended capacitors and resistors are used on
tagboards without sleeving, this is not so when point-to-point
wiring is necessary, as in, for example, a miniature I.F strip. In
this and like instances, the use of sleeving on bare wire is
generally a quick and effective wiring method. It should be borne in
mind that there will be space between the sleeving and conductor
which is not present with covered wire. Moisture may enter into this
space and become trapped, causing subsequent corrosion of the
conductor and a lowering of insulation resistance when the sleeved
wires touch. In a similar manner large diameter sleeving, when used
to hold together a number of covered wires, may form a dangerous
moisture trap. In all cases sleevings should be chosen to be as
tight a fit as possible on the conductor. use of a suitable
lubricant is advised to facilitate insertion of the conductor.

For wire and cable construction, conductors with 1, 7, 19, 37 and
133 strands are available as standard sizes. Cables are available as
single core, multi-core and multi-pair twisted. These can further be
shielded, double shielded or flat woven. The choice of conductors
includes Silver Plated Copper, Silver Plated Copper Clad Steel,
Nickle Plated Copper and Annealed Bare Copper.
